Egyptians standing up to their government and political leader Mubarak.
Libyans standing up to their government and political leader Gadhdafi.

What was the 'enough is enough' turning point when civilians in these countries turned to public protests to demand a change in government?

Vow of Silence

The McMurrich school community took part in the Vow of Silence on February 18th. Please use the guiding questions to share your reflections.

Before The Vow Of Silence:
Do you believe by taking the vow of silence you can make a difference?
During The Vow Of Silence:
How would you feel if you were silenced daily?

Martinsday @ Roy Thompson Hall

Message from the Director of Education: Dr. Chris Spence
Welcome to "Keeping The Dream Alive", the Toronto District School Board's celebration of the incredible life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! We are immensely proud to bring today's exciting production to the prestigious stage of Roy
Thomson Hall.

At the Toronto District School Board, we have a vision for the future, based on our strong commitment to the principles of equity, fairness, and human rights. By advocating for a socially just world, we ensure our students will become responsible members of our democratic society.

Seeing young people on stage and in the audience embracing the TDSB's social justice principles through artistic expression assures us of a bright road ahead. Keeping the Dream Alive embodies the ideals of our new Social Justice Action Plan, which mandates each school, elementary and secondary, to get involved in one local and one international social justice initiative.

On this special day, we wish each and every one of you success! We hope the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-and all the other great men, women, and children who have devoted their lives to the noble causes of human rights and social justice - will touch you today and guide you as you grow into contributing citizens of our complicated, challenging and always-changing world.

Thank You!

Today's message "Keeping the Dream Alive" has a strong connection to many people. What was your connection to the message? What can you do to further promote the message that Dr. King shared with the world so many years ago?

Silverbirch Reading Book Club

The purpose of the Silverbirch Reading Book Club Blog is to engage students in reflection and dialogue of the books they are reading during the next few months. This year we have been pleasantly surprised by having more than 50 students within the Junior Grades signed up for the Silverbirch Reading Club and we realized that hearing their thoughts, feedback and reflections on a regular basis would be challenging. This blog forum not only provides students a voice but encourages peers to provide constructive feedback, making further connections to their reading experiences and asking questions along the way. Students write about what they are reading and will include reading strategies such as inferencing, making connections, summarizing and/or evaluating the text

Passport to Manhood

"Helping our boys become men"

My Character Contract

I, ____ will RESPECT the time my mentor has volunteered to help me take RESPONSIBILITY for all of my actions. I will express EMPATHY toward the feelings of other members by displaying random acts of KINDNESS & CARING. I realize that Boys 2 Men is a brotherhood of young men that thrives on TEAMWORK and FAIRNESS. This program will only work for me if I bring to it HONESTY and a willingness to work in complete CO-OPERATION with other members. As I become a man, INTEGRITY will represent my actions while my PERSEVERANCE will insure that I survive the journey.

This passport will be signed by teachers at the end of each week for each month, focussing on the character trait for that month. This will allow for students to track their progress and growth; which will further inform their goal setting for each week.

McM Boys2Men Blog Purpose

The purpose of the MuMurrich Boys2Men blog is to promote further discussion, reflection and sharing of ideas the Grade 6 boys have prior or post weekly meetings. This blog will also highlight and showcase their learning experiences within the school community as well as thoughts about the world around them.

The Boys 2 Men Creed

As I transition into a man
Boys 2 Men requires that
I RESPECT myself and others
My mentors expect me
to represent the
brotherhood with PRIDE
And I will make a
habit of acting with
DIGNITY and character
