Martinsday @ Roy Thompson Hall

Message from the Director of Education: Dr. Chris Spence
Welcome to "Keeping The Dream Alive", the Toronto District School Board's celebration of the incredible life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! We are immensely proud to bring today's exciting production to the prestigious stage of Roy
Thomson Hall.

At the Toronto District School Board, we have a vision for the future, based on our strong commitment to the principles of equity, fairness, and human rights. By advocating for a socially just world, we ensure our students will become responsible members of our democratic society.

Seeing young people on stage and in the audience embracing the TDSB's social justice principles through artistic expression assures us of a bright road ahead. Keeping the Dream Alive embodies the ideals of our new Social Justice Action Plan, which mandates each school, elementary and secondary, to get involved in one local and one international social justice initiative.

On this special day, we wish each and every one of you success! We hope the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-and all the other great men, women, and children who have devoted their lives to the noble causes of human rights and social justice - will touch you today and guide you as you grow into contributing citizens of our complicated, challenging and always-changing world.

Thank You!

Today's message "Keeping the Dream Alive" has a strong connection to many people. What was your connection to the message? What can you do to further promote the message that Dr. King shared with the world so many years ago?

  1. I think that the message "Keeping the dream alive" is that the thought of Dr. King dream: That all African American people will not be in captivity, will always be reminded and remember. I think to promote his message is to make a message of his on an annoucment that is said on everyday.

  3. What I would do to keeping the dream alive is,that people in generl should be equal and not judged by their skin.Fairness in in our school should not be reminded, it should be endless. People like when Martin was around should not be rated or judged by what they are. To further promote the message I would inspire those who dont know the message by reading biographies and reaserch and share with them these are the things I would do to promote what I would do to promote a powerful man

  5. I think that we can all keep the dream of Martin Luther king alive by not being racist not making fun of the colour of someone’s skin etc. other things we can do to keep the dream alive is to sometimes share important things to other people like Martin Luther kings dream. The last way I think we can keep his dream alive is by sharing it. Jahkeem =))

  8. The connection that I had “keeping the dream alive” is that if you wanted to make a big change in the world you would have start off small and making the change bigger as you grow up and go on for example like Dr king he put his whole family and himself at risk just to give everyone equal rights and the life we have now.

What I would do to further promote this message “keeping the dream alive” is by asking people “where would you be if Dr king didn’t say anything for our equal rights and our freedom” or I would ask the person have you herd the message “keeping the dream alive” what connection can you make and I would tell the person to start telling other people.

  10. Dr. King's message changed the world through his famous speaches, and his courage to express his feelings. If Dr. King haddn't made his famous speaches I would not be the person I am today. The world would not have been the world it is today. In conclusion Dr. King's contributions to the world will live forever.

I will further promote Dr. King's message by treating everyone equaly because there will be a chain reaction later. In conclusion Dr. King will forever live in our world, with the courage he has given past, present,or future.

  11. The connection I have with the message "Keeping the Dream Alive" is that you shouldn't go back to treating other people bad just because Dr.Martin Luther King is gone. The message Dr.King sent us isn't gone, it hasn't changed, and it is STILL true. I remember I wanted to play a game with someone one time and one of them said"no BLACK DUDES allowed." It"s comments like that that hurt people back in back in Dr.King's days and still hurt people today.

  14. The message "Keeping The Dream Alive" is a very powerful message and it has a connoectioon which people should not judge other of what colour their skin is or if they are big or small or were they are from. Everybody has the right to betreated the same. To further promote this message i think it should be on an announcement every day and every school. It should also be on the news so that it will remind others that everybody has the right to be treated the same
